Pronounced Moc Cheer-a. Irish for “Wolf”.
She loved driving for the sake of driving. The smooth road and good music never ceased to put her back on the beam. Tonight she was driving home from an errand. She noted that night was coming on and it would be dark soon so she turned on her headlights. Just as she was turning the lights on, she noticed she was alone on the back road. It was a road she had been on hundreds of times and found the familiarity comforting. Her favorite music was playing and she had the bass turned up.
As she settled into the warm seat, she looked in the rearview mirror and noticed that suddenly there were a few cars behind her. They were about 500 feet back and all together. Before she knew it, she could hear galloping and she got the sense that she was in a field on a beautiful day on a great black horse. The sound of the hooves melded with the beat of the song on the stereo and she was taken away……….
She rode as if they were chasing her. Her auburn hair billowing behind her as she encouraged the mare to gallop faster. She didn’t really care if they caught her. She wasn’t running. She was just enjoying the chase: The wind in her hair, the horse underneath her and the unbridled exhilaration of speed.
She rode until she rounded an outcropping of rocks that opened to the shore and a little bay protected on both sides by craggy rocks. She slid off the horse and decided to walk for a while. The sand was warm on her feet. The horse was panting which made her glad she’d decided to walk and give her a break.
They had been walking for just a few minutes when the horse reared just enough that she lost her grip of the ropes she’d been holding. The mare bolted and ran back toward the entrance to the little alcove they’d discovered. Looking round, our hero saw what had startled the mare. Just above eye level on the rocks to her right, she saw him. He was larger than any wolf she had ever seen and his coat was all grey with a small black marking between his eyes and black ears . He was staring at her. She wanted to run. Instinct told her to run but she just stood there as he nimbly and purposefully descended the rocks and started to walk towards her.
